Imphal District Tennis Association (IDTA) :

History : Tennis (grass court) was introduced in Manipur by the British in the late 18th century. Maharaj Churachand Singh, who was a fine sportsman himself, was the first manipuri to have played the game of tennis in Manipur. The first hard court was a cemented tennis court at D.M. College and the first official tennis tournament was the Shri Thongam Kirti Singh Memorial Open Tennis Championship (21st March to 9th April 1983). The Tounament was organised by Central District Lawn Tennis Association (CDLTA) which was founded in 1980 that had a very short life span as it's registration with the government was hampered due to the bifurcation of the then Central District of Manipur into many districts. Thereafter, on 14th July 1990, Imphal District Tennis Association (IDTA) was formed and got the Manipur Government registration on 9th August 1990. The 1st Team of the Office bearers of IDTA include Shri G.A.Joychandra Sharma (President), H. Shashanka Sekhar Sharma (Secretary), Ch. Prithilal Singh (Treasurer), Y. Birkumar Singh, L. Bihari Singh, T. Nirmal Singh, I. Purnimashi Devi, M. Ibotombi Singh, L.Ibotombi Singh, P. Dhanakumar Singh, M. Karnajit Singh, N. Barak Singh, Kh. Joy Singh, S. Amutombi Singh, W. Shyamkishor Singh, Y. Rupachandra Singh, Y. Rojen Singh. Legal Entity : Imphal District Tennis Association (IDTA) is a registered society under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 with its registration number 2056 of 1990. IDTA is affiliated to Manipur Tennis Association (MATA) vide regn no. 1 voucher no. A05 of 01/08/1994.  Infrastructure : Spread on an area of over 3 acres of land at the peaceful and serene Lamphelpat area in the foothills of the Langol range, IDTA Complex is a sprawling campus comprising of seven Tennis courts of which six are of deco turf surface and one of clay. It also has a two storeyed building whose ground floor is utilised for office purposes and two halls in the first floor are for multipurpose usage depending on the requirement like 1) Small functions and party hall for hiring, 2) Dormitory stay for players during tournaments, 3) Recreational indoor games like table tennis. Objectives : The main objective of IDTA is to promote and propagate the game of tennis in the region and groom the young talents to make them rise up to the international standards. There are other objectives which are well enshrined in its constitution. An AITA registered Tennis academy named IDTA TENNIS ACADEMY operates here offerring tennis classes to all ages. We run exciting training programmes for all levels of ability, from beginners to competitive tennis players. Our coaches believe in safe, fun and enjoyable activities that will inspire and motivate a new generation to come and hone their tennis skills and talents.

IDTA TENNIS ACADEMY, PROGRAMMES & ACHIEVEMENTS

Young athletes can find it difficult to compete at the highest level when they are not trained with the required proper methodology. IDTA TENNIS ACADEMY is a place where one can hone proper Tennis skills with training from qualified Tennis coaches and this goes for experts and beginners alike. Our Coaches namely, Brojendro Toijam, Yambem Leelenje, Dingku, Huidrom Becker are doing a wonderful job by imparting tennis coaching throughout the whole week. Coaching Programme: 1) Beginners, 2) Intermediate Level, 3) Advanced Level. Our Achievers : Within a span of hardly three years, the IDTA Tennis Academy has produced many AITA Tournament champions in various age groups. Bunty Chongtham, Luching Lukram, Rahul Pamei, Bushan Haobam, Bhicky Sagolshem, Ashwajit Senjam, Shanker Heisnam, Karnajit Yumnam are some of the players who have won various state or AITA Tournaments. Bushan Haobam represented India in the Road to Wimbledon programme in London in 2019. Luching Lukram and Huidrom Becker of the Academy represented Manipur University and won the University Zonal Championship recently. There are other promising young players of the Academy like Paras Lukram, Jason, Yoihenba, Diana, Luhan, Freya, Angelica etc to name a few. With concerted effort from the Players, Coaches , Parents and well wishers the day is not far when we would be able to produce National and even International level tennis champions.
